Aiko Nakagawa was born in 1975 in Tokyo, Japan and has lived and worked in New York City since the mid 90’s. Her artist name is Lady Aiko. She has a BFA  in graphic design and filmmaking from Tokyo Zokei University and an MFA in Media Studies from The New School, New York. After school, she ran Takashi Murakami’s Brooklyn studio, long before he became famous. She was a founding member of the “FAILE” collective working alongside BAST, Banksy, Ben Eine and Shepard Fairey until forging a solo career in 2006. Lady Aiko fuses collage, stenciling, brushwork, spray paint, and serigraphy, mashing-up Japanese traditional aesthetic and American pop culture, she also draws inspiration from the street, Kawaii culture (kawaii engl.: cute), and worldwide accepted representations of female sexuality. Her works playfully portray femininity, sexuality and the beauty of human life and are rather positive.
